Les Ambassadeurs is an exclusive Casino, second only to 50 St James's also owned by London Clubs. A Grade II* listed building, once the home of the Rothchild Family, its exceptional French Classical style facade was seen by the owners as a wonderful opportunity to create a fantastic theatrical illusion, through the judicious use of exterior lighting.

Brief

The brief was simple enough, but had to be fulfilled within the strictures of English Heritage, with no visible exterior fittings allowed.

Challenges

The main challenge was the fact that no visible light fittings were allowed, requiring the use of small, inconspicuous fittings in concealed locations. Long secondary runs of up to 50 metres would be required for the low-voltage lighting and transformer location was another hurdle, as it was not possible to gain access to the interior of the building.

Project Details

Exterior VoltMaster dimmable transformers were the only way the long secondary runs could be accommodated, and some of these were supplied in specially camouflaged boxes for locations where there was no other method of concealment.

Result
